Smallflower Centuary (Centaurium erythraea) (4 oz) #11269
Centaury  (Centaurium erythraea) is an annual or biennial of the Gentianaceae family, native to most of Europe, Asia and North Africa. It is a somewhat unassuming little plant, growing to a maximum height of about a foot on sturdy square stems. Its deep pink or red five-petaled flowers bloom for only 4 or 5 days, part of its ability to self-pollinate when necessary. Like most members of the Genitana family, Centaury is famously bitter and has been traditionally used for digestive and liver support for many generations. When taken 30 minutes before a meal, a very bitter Centaury tea may help ease occasional digestive complaints like heartburn, gas and bloating, and might also help stimulate a sluggish appetite.Â
